First things first, I have something that needs to be addressed, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with Hawaii, or even this outfit. You might remember that I've worn a few pieces on this blog from the Asian retailer, Shein, and that I've written a few posts for them. However, I've received a couple of emails from readers lately telling me about their bad experiences when ordering from this company, and I've read many customer reviews detailing their poor service, with unresponsiveness and return issues being the bulk of the complaints.
I've also experienced firsthand the unprofessional way they communicate to bloggers through email. In their messages, they call you "dear" or "hun", which I don't find appropriate. I understand that some of their phrasing is due to a language barrier, but they also ask many bloggers to write posts on their behalf without compensation. Based on the reviews that I have read online, it would also appear that they give bloggers special treatment, which is definitely not fair to their paying customers.
I apologize for featuring Shein without doing proper research on the brand. Jean of Extra Petite has written here that she also does not associate with them for these reasons. In light of these issues, I have decided to stop working with Shein, in hopes that they can improve their customer service and PR department.
Ok, glad that's out of the way! On a lighter note, this is another outfit from Hawaii, and just writing this post made me miss Oahu's warm, sunny days. This Lilly Pulitzer skirt in Peel n' Eat is so bright and summery that I couldn't resist packing it. Peel n' Eat is one of my all-time favorite Lilly Pulitzer prints, and I was so happy to see that they brought it back last season.
Hope you all are having a lovely January so far!
I've worked with Shein a few times, and had pretty mixed results. I honestly had no issues with the customer service (I think sometimes the phrasing they use is due to a language barrier), but some of the products are REALLY hit and miss. I'm glad to hear you standing up for what you've heard and backing away from the brand. I should probably do some more research too!

Thank you, Alecz! I definitely agree that the language barrier is responsible for much of the phrasing, and that the quality of their products varies greatly. Thank you so much for your support, and for reading my post.
DeleteThis outfit is so cute!! Also, I really admire your honesty about working with companies - a brand shouldn't be featured if their products, customer service, and PR are not of quality. I have some friends who have bought from Shein and they've had some difficulty with shipping and quality as well.

I'm sorry you've had a negative experience. I've enjoyed it as a blogger and even tried it on my own to make sure. I have heard returns are hard. You look pretty!

Digging the tropical vibe here, lady!
ReplyDeleteI've worked with SheIn before- definitely experienced the hit + miss nature of the products. There were a few I couldn't justify blogging about because the fit was so off. Others were fine. But definitely frustrating not to know what you are going to get when you place an order!

Thank you, Ashley! I definitely agree. I think being nervous about what you're going to get takes all the fun out of shopping or getting a package in the mail.
DeleteI am SO glad you posted this! I had a very similar experience working with another brand (won't say names) but it's a brand just like SheIn. I was tempted to post about my horrible experience but wasn't brave enough! Ended up just deleting all references of the brand on my post and social media. Thanks for speaking up!

Oh, that's horrible! I kept up two of the links (to the c/o products that I wore) but I deleted the rest of the links to Shein and added a disclosure at the bottom of all my posts for them.
DeleteOh no, so sorry you had bad experience with SheIn. Before working with them, I did try them out as a customer, and luckily, didn't have any issues. But that is unfair that the customer service level varies and it should be consistent. Thanks for sharing Julia!
